kid washing handsCarrier Academy of Learning has remained open throughout the Coronavirus pandemic to provide essential services, but COVID-19 has certainly changed the daycare landscape.

While cleanliness and hygiene have always been top priorities, we are now going above and beyond our high standards to meet the State and CDC requirements.

With some parents heading back to work, families will be returning children to our care. Rest assured we’re doing all we can to protect the wellbeing of your kids, as well as our staff.

Preparing Your Kids

Although we’ve all become accustomed to the current circumstances, have a conversation with your children about what comes next. Be open and honest but do not cause alarm. Kids can understand the concept of a cold, as well as the importance of washing our hands and being respectful of personal space, but do not need to be exposed to any unsettling details.

It’s also important to ask your children how they are feeling about the evolving situation and new protocols. While they may be excited to see their friends at daycare again, they might also be worried about catching germs.

Reassure them that your family, as well as our team at Carrier Academy of Learning, are doing everything in our power to make sure everyone stays safe – as we’ve always done.

Reinforce New Habits

Continue to remind your kids to wash their hands often and thoroughly. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends 20 seconds to lather and rinse. To help your children remember, 20 seconds equates to humming “Happy Birthday” twice.

Hands should be washed after using the bathroom, playing outside, touching a shared object, before eating and after blowing your nose, sneezing or coughing.

Our New Guidelines

When your child returns to our care, there are new safety measures in place. Temperature checks will be required for our staff and all children before entering the center; anyone with a fever will not be able to come in. On that same note, we have increased our already strict sick policy to ensure that children and staff experiencing symptoms stay home and rest.

Pickup and drop off will take place outside to limit the number of people inside at one time. In the classroom, all children will be kept six feet apart and frequent handwashing will be required. Staff members will disinfect high traffic areas and objects throughout the day.
