kids schooling at homeStaying home has become the new normal but after months of quarantine, it can start to feel overwhelming at times. That’s why maintaining a schedule is important to help you stay productive during these unprecedented circumstances.

Carrier Academy of Learning has some helpful tips for staying on task and making the most of these long stretches spent at home.

Establish Routines

What is your typical daily routine? There are many benefits to keeping your family on a regular schedule during this time, such as making long days at home more comfortable.

Working and virtual learning from home may make it difficult to stay on task throughout the day. Having an established routine can help keep the house under control during work and school hours. Try to designate small blocks of time for technology use, so there is ample time for outdoor play and family bonding.

Stay Moving

Staying active is important to our overall health, especially while being stuck at home. Whether it’s a family walk or playing in the yard, physical activity is a great way to keep the mind and body healthy.

On rainy days, it may be fun to have the family try an online dance class. Promote positive energy and relieve stress, while dancing to your favorite songs!

Talk It Out

Emotions may be running high while being cooped-up in the house, so it’s important to talk about how you are feeling.

Age aside, everyone is confused and experiencing different emotions during this time. Talking to one another can be beneficial for mental health and growing family relationships.

Try Something New

This is the perfect time to try something new. One idea could be family cooking nights, where you enjoy trying different recipes together. Use this time to talk to your kids about their interests and hobbies. You may be able to find an activity the whole family can enjoy.

Trying new activities is also a great way to reinvigorate a monotonous household. Following the quarantine, these activities may become regular occurrences!

Set Goals

Being stuck at home does not mean you cannot accomplish your goals. Set monthly objectives for yourself and have your children do the same.

Creating a book log can help encourage reading. Have older kids write about the book in a journal to help writing skills. When a goal is met, perhaps the kids can choose a treat!
